Swisscom’s Capex dips 8.6% to CHF 2.229 billion

Swisscom CEO Urs Schaeppi on 5GSwisscom’s Q4 Capex fell 8.6 percent to CHF 2.229 billion. In 2019, CHF 196 million was attributable to expenditure on 5G mobile radio frequencies.

Swisscom made investment in the quality, coverage and performance of its network infrastructure, reinforcing its position at the cutting edge of technology. Data volumes on the mobile network increased 29 percent. Since 2010, the data volume has increased more than a hundredfold.

Swisscom had connected around 4.4 million or 82 percent of homes and businesses in Switzerland to its ultra-fast broadband service (speeds in excess of 80 Mbps).

Over 3.1 million or 59 percent of homes and businesses enjoy fast connections with speeds of more than 200 Mbps. The coverage for speeds of 10 Gbps is around 32 percent.

Swisscom will make ultra-fast broadband available in every municipality by the end of 2021, even in remote locations.

Swisscom said its fibre-optic coverage to homes and businesses (FTTH) is set to increase to 60 percent by the end of 2025.

Swisscom’s 4G/LTE network covered 99 percent of the Swiss population. Swisscom achieved transmission speed of 1 Gbps in a moving train by bundling 4G and 5G. Swisscom currently covers 96 percent of the Swiss population with a basic version of 5G. As at the end of 2020, Swisscom had 1,239 antennas in 522 locations with full 5G+.

Swisscom Group revenue decreased 3.1 percent to CHF 11.100 billion, while operating income before depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 0.6 percent to CHF 4,382 million.
